Why you should make your own pumpkin spice syrup at home

It’s convenient, and it’ll last you a long time. More importantly, it’s better than anything sold in the store.

It is economical and you can skip the Starbucks queue if you made your spiced syrup at home. It will only take 15 minutes from start to finish.

The ingredients are easily accessible, it contains no preservatives and you can pronounce everything that goes into the syrup. You might think store-bought is better as it would last you longer, while that is true but all the preservatives added don’t do your body any good.

This recipe can be used in many different ways and It will keep for about two weeks in the fridge so you can make it ahead of time.

Pumpkin puree: this can be homemade but you can also use canned one, just make sure it is pumpkin pie filling. Sugar: I used a combination of brown sugar and granulated sugar Pumpkin spice: my homemade pumpkin spice consists of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and ground ginger. vanilla extract

How to make pumpkin spice syrup

Add all ingredients to a small saucepan, stir well to combine. Bring to a boil over medium heat until the sugar is completely dissolved and the liquid syrupy. This should take about 5 to 10 minutes or longer depending on how thick you want it, however, the syrup does thicken as it cools down. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool completely before handling. Transfer the syrup to a dry clean bottle or jar, cover tightly, and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

How to use pumpkin spice syrup

Add about 1 to 2 teaspoons or Tablespoons to sweeten beverages or cocktails as desired (it is very obvious right, add it to coffee, teas, milk, steamers, etc. Don’t worry I have got loads of coffee recipes you both here and on my YouTube channel)

Add to banana bread or pumpkin bread for extra flavor

Drizzle over Pancakes, waffles, vanilla ice cream, yogurt, or baked apples for a yummy dessert.

Tips

If you are not a fan of any of the spices used for this sugar syrup them feel free to omit it.

While the ratio for simple sugar syrup is 1 to 2, you can adjust the sugar to taste. However, it will not be syrupy enough if you use less sugar or too thick if you use a lot of sugar.

To really experience what you would get from Starbucks use condensed milk instead of regular milk. That said be careful so you don’t over-sweeten your beverage

Do not leave the syrup out on the countertop; pumpkin puree is extremely perishable and can shorten the syrup’s shelf life if not stored or handled correctly. Store it in the fridge at all times.
